HASSELBAINK HAD NO HESITATIONS HANDING O'CONNOR AND MATTHEWS THE FULL 90

27 July 2015

New signing Anthony O’Connor racked up his first 90 minutes since arriving from Plymouth Argyle earlier this month.

After stating earlier in the week that he cannot wait to learn from the skipper John Mousinho, he certainly had his chance to do so as he lined up with the ex-Preston man for the full game.

“Anthony O’Connor has already had his 45 minutes and his 60 minutes.” Hasselbaink said. “The 90 minutes against the Blues were important for him to give him that match fitness and he has done well.”

O’Connor wasn’t the only new-boy to be handed a full 90 minutes. Norwich loanee Remi Matthews started and finished the game to make his first appearance for the Brewers.

Matthews joined on loan from Norwich a few weeks back as cover for McLaughlin. Hasselbaink’s number one will be suspended for the first game of the season so he saw the importance of solidifying his back five.

“Remi Matthews played the full 90 also, to get that back five united ready for the first game of the season as Jon McLaughlin will be suspended.

“Men’s football is what Remi needed.”
