HASSELBAINK IS KEEN TO ADD COMPETITION TO HIS SIDE WITH TRIALISTS

28 July 2015

Throughout the pre-season period, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has taken a handful of players on trial at Burton Albion.

During their pre-season tour of the Netherlands, one trialist was on show and featured in a training fixture against AFC Arnhem.

Since the Brewers have been back in England, a former Brewer and a fans favourite has been on trial with the club and featured in the 2-0 victory over Birmingham City. A second trialist was also given some game time against Gary Rowett's side, a name that hasn't been mentioned much.

"It is important for us to learn about other players and their characters." Hasselbaink said about his trialists. "We also need to see if some new players like us, do they fit in the group? Can they fit in the way we are working? All those things are important."

With seven new faces already signed up for the new season with the Brewers, Hasselbaink is still keen to add competition to the side in all areas in order to get his players performing and fighting for their places.

"We need competition in all areas. We need to have people fighting for their places, in cup competitions as well. We need more players to get game time."

"In the season you will have to rest people so we need to get the same quality on the pitch to replace them. That is what we are trying."
