HASSELBAINK PROUD OF THE PLAYERS THAT STEPPED IN LAST NIGHT

ANOTHER League Cup giant killing saw Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's men overturn Championship opponents in Bolton Wanderers.

Statistics show a dominant Bolton performance, with shots and possession going in the home team's favour. On the pitch, the Brewers defended superbly and also looked a threat on the counter attack.

It was evident that every player in a yellow and black shirt fought until the final whistle to grab the victor,y which Hasselbaink wanted from his boys.

He said: "It was always going to be one of those where you have to fight to the bitter end.

"If you make a mistake, you would be punished. We were compact and had to defend in numbers.

"You are always going to want your goalkeeper to be in form, luckily Remi was."

Six changes were made to the side that faced Scunthorpe last Saturday, including three in the midfield. With the changes made, you still couldn't see a weakness in the Albion side, which has pleased the Dutch manager.

"It is very pleasing but I was forced to make the changes because we have just finished pre-season." Hasselbaink said.

"Nobody is really 100% match fit. You had to be mentally fit against Bolton."

"For Saturday, it has to be the same. To not be 100% fit and to have three games in a week is hard so I was forced to make changes."

Butcher and Reilly were in the heart of the midfield whilst Crystal Palace wide man Jerome Binnom-Williams played down the left. Thiele led the line on his own with Palmer just sitting behind him.

"The players that came in did really well and did themselves proud, and did us proud.

"At the end of the day, you want people to fight for places and show us that they can handle it."
