Burton Albion manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Manager of the Month for September. He led Burton to the top of League 1 for the first time in the club’s 65-year history.
Hasselbaink has instilled a calm belief and an organisation that allowed his team to collect 10 points from five games, keeping three clean sheets on the way.
Hasselbaink said: “I’m honoured but it’s more about the achievement with the boys and I don’t want to be singled out.
“So far the boys have been exceptional and I think that when the manager gets that kind of recognition then they should give the group some recognition as well.”
George Burley chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel.
He said: “Jimmy has done a fantastic job since taking over at Burton Albion. He has had a tremendous month collecting 10 points from five games and has made history in taking Burton to their highest league position in the 65 years since the club was founded.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: ““Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is making quite a name for himself as manager of Burton Albion.
“He took on Gary Rowett’s promising squad after their Play-Off disappointment in 2014 and has put his own stamp on them.
“He did a fantastic job in getting them promoted in his first season at the helm and is well placed to repeat the feat in League 1 this season.”
Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Starting the month with a defeat to Coventry was purely a blip for perfectionist Hasselbaink.
“His Burton side are playing a very attractive brand of football and are organised and tough to break down.
“The Brewers started the season as a 25/1 shot to follow up League 2 success with a Sky Bet League 1 title, but they are now 5/1 second favourites behind Sheffield United, who currently sit eight points behind them in the table.”
