DAMIEN McCRORY JOINS PORTSMOUTH ON LOAN

31 August 2017

DEFENDER Damien McCrory has joined League One side Portsmouth on loan until January.

The 27-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Brewers back in 2012. He opened his goalscoring account for the club on 17 November, in a 3–2 win over former club Dagenham, and was rewarded with a place on the League Two Team of the Week.

Despite damaging his cartilage in his knee joint in April 2014, McCrory signed a new two-year contract in July 2014.

He made 41 appearances in the 2015/16 season as Burton won promotion out of League One for the first time in the club's history. Manager Nigel Clough offered him a new contract in the summer.

The Irishman has made five Burton Albion appearances this season, with two of those coming in the Carabao Cup against Oldham and Cardiff respectively.

Manager Nigel Clough said: “With Stephen Warnock hopefully coming back after the international break and with other options available for us we didn’t want to stand in the way of Damien being able to go to a big club like Portsmouth and getting regular football. It’s a good opportunity for him.”
