INJURY WORRIES AFTER SUNDERLAND VICTORY

27 November 2019

LAST night’s 2-1 win at Sunderland has added to Nigel Clough’s injury worries ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup Second Round trip to Oldham.

Both Richard Nartey and Oliver Sarkic had to be substituted in the victory at the Stadium of Light and John Brayford was only fit enough for the bench.

Clough said: “Richard Nartey’s hamstring tightened up and we wanted to make sure it didn’t get any worse. We will have to assess him now later this week. Oliver Sarkic was feeling a couple of things.

“John Brayford played four minutes and that’s the most he could have done last night. He’s been struggling.

“Joe Sbarra has also had a little bit of a sore knee he picked up against Salford, so we need to be a bit careful with that but he’s always in our thoughts for starting.

“We will have to have a count up on Friday and see how we are doing.”

Albion are also now without winger Lloyd Dyer.

Clough said: “He was on a short-term deal with us which was up. We had a chat last week, but he might be looking elsewhere which he’s free to do in January. It was brilliant that he came and helped us out as he did but for now it looks like he will be moving on.

“We have six weeks until the window opens again but Reece Hutchinson isn’t far off and Nathan Broadhead will be back hopefully Saturday or Tuesday.

“It’s good that we have a tight knit squad and that can sometimes get you results like last night. Time off and rest is important as anything for them at the moment.”
