OSHILAJA: I'VE BEEN WORKING ON MY FINISHING

28 November 2022

A DEJI Oshilaja double helped Burton Albion beat Chippenham Town 6-1 in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup - and the Brewers midfielder is keen to replicate the Brewers’ impressive cup form in the league.

Albion turned in a dominant performance against the Bluebirds on Sunday and vice-captain Oshilaja was pleased with the composure his side showed in front of goal.

Oshilaja said: "To score six goals and to be through in two cups now after today and Tuesday night’s game is very positive all round to be fair.

"I thought we played some great football and to be fair I think we’ve played some good stuff throughout the season, but we haven’t had that cutting edge at times and haven’t been able to find the goal, but today we took our chances well and we could have scored a few more goals."

Oshilaja scored his first goal on the brink of halftime after the he went on an impressive solo run on the right wing, but the midfielder revealed he was actually trying to find Victor Adeboyejo in the middle.

"To be fair I wanted to square it to Victor as obviously I want him to help him get his goals," said Oshilaja.

"But the opportunity came my way as the keeper sat down so I thought 'I might as well just score myself' and I tapped it in!”

Oshilaja is now on six goals for the season making this his best ever season in front of goal and the 29-year-old revealed this is an area of his game he’s been striving to improve on.

"My finishing is certainly getting better in training, and I’m very pleased because I’ve been working on that a lot," added Oshilaja.

"So obviously today was a good opportunity for me to show it off and I’m very pleased with both my goals."

Albion are now through to the last 16 of the Papa John’s Trophy and into third round of the FA Cup, with the draw taking place at 7pm tonight, and Oshilaja is hoping to replicate Albion’s impressive cup form in the league

He said: "We’ve had some good results and I think that’s eight games unbeaten at home now so we’re looking to build and looking to got to MK Dons and put on a good performance.

"We’ve always had the mentality that we’re in a good place and the table says what it says but It’s one of those things we’re not really looking at as we’re looking to build.

"Ever since Dino (Maamria) has come in I think everyone can see the improvements in our performances, in the way we’re playing and with the confidence around the boys, but now we’ve just got to go ahead and win games."
